Events and Workshops

You may register for workshops or the trips when you pre-register for the conference (we recommend you do this as space is limited). Workshop registration will be available at the conference on a space-available basis. For more information contact Emmett Essin (essine@etsu.edu).

Workshop A: Employment Opportunities Outside Academia
Wednesday, March 12, 5:00-7:00 p.m. ($15 Registration Fee); Edwin J. Rossman, Ph.D., with the Army Corps of Engineers, will present a workshop on employment opportunities outside of academia. The workshop will include a discussion of the benefits of working outside of academia, employment opportunities, and how to be competitive in this job market. Proceeds support SSSA.

 

Workshop B: Research Ethics and Integrity Workshop
Friday, March 14, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. ($15 Registration Fee); Joanne Ardovini, Metropolitan College of New York, will present a workshop on strategies finding a job in academe. Topics will range from writing a blind letter to negotiating a contract. The workshop is designed for all potential faculty members.

Workshop C: Fundamentals of NIH Peer Review: Organization, Principles, and Tips for Applicants
Friday, March 14, 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. ($15 Registration Fee); Michael Micklin, Ph.D., Chief of the Risk, Prevention, and Health Behavior Integrated Review Group, Center for Scientific Review, National Institutes of Health, will present a workshop on NIH grants, including (1) helpful hints, "dos" and "don'ts," regarding preparation of an NIH grant application; (2) organization of NIH extramural program, emphasizing peer review of grant applications; (3) recent innovations in NIH peer review policy and procedures; and (4) question and answer session.
