At the 90^th Annual Meeting of the SSSA, convening in Houston, the retiring editors of Social Science Quarterly will be honored at the SSSA Presidential Reception.

At the 90^th Annual Meeting of the SSSA, convening in Houston, Texas, plenary speaker Dr. Randoph Roth will address possibilities for scholarly integration in his highlighted talk speak on the topic "Can We Learn to Play Well with Others? Enlisting the Humanities, the Sciences, and the Social Sciences in the Study of Violence."

SSSA returns to two favorites cities for its 2014 and 2015 meetings, San Antonio and Denver.

The Southwestern Social Science Association and the Southwestern International Studies Association lost a long-time friend on March 19, 2009 upon the death of Gustavo Wensjoe, professor at the University of St. Thomas (UST) and director of its Center for International Studies (CIS).

Distinguished Service Awards presented to Emmit Essin (East Tennessee State), Rose Rubin (University of Memphis), and Lydia Andrade (University of the Incarnate Word).
