Registration Information

General Registration Information

Convention pre-registration will begin October 1, 2008. You will be able to pre-register by mail or online. SSSA’s convention registration fees continue to be lower than most national or regional conferences, making our conference one of the most reasonable to attend in the nation. The Riviera has also provided us with generous incentives for early conference registration.

Important Registration Information

Registration policies and procedures

  • All conference attendees must register for the conference.
  • Registration credentials, including name badge, name badge holder, and printed conference program will be distributed at the conference registration desk in the Riviera Conference Center.
  • Early Bird Registration will begin November 1, 2007 and end February 15, 2008.
  • Early Bird Registrations and regular registrations received through March 7, 2008 will be confirmed by e-mail. Please print this e-mail confirmation, retain it for your records, and bring it to the registration desk at the conference. This will make it easier to resolve registration discrepancies promptly.
  • Attendees claiming student classification must provide as proof a valid current student identification card; early bird registrants should send a photocopy to the address shown on the registration form (be sure to block out social security or student ID numbers), or show their card to the staff at the conference registration desk. Without a valid student ID card, attendees will be charged the professional rate.
  • NEW! SSSA Hotel & Convention Registration Policy. Registration rates for people not staying at the conference hotel include a $30 surcharge. The Riviera's master listing of SSSA room block guests will be our core reference document showing whether attendees are staying at the hotel. In the unlikely case that you are staying at the Riviera, but your name is not on the hotel's list, please bring proof of your hotel registration to the conference registration staff. WHY? SSSA's ability to negotiate low room rates depends almost entirely upon the association's ability to guarantee to the hotel that a certain number of people will stay at the conference hotel. See our full explanation here.
    • Exceptions to the registration surcharge will be made for (1) attendees living within 50 miles of Las Vegas, and (2) attendees associated with high schools, colleges, universities, companies, or agencies located within 50 miles of Las Vegas.
    • If you claim that you qualify for an exception to the policy, you will be asked for proof of your local residency, employment, or enrollment, such as a driver's license, business card, or other form of identification card. Without such proof, the SSSA Hotel and Conference Registration Policy and surcharge will apply.

Early Bird Registration Incentives.

The Riviera has provided five pairs of tickets to their shows for our members (each pair of tickets is valued at $70-$150). We will hold five random drawings to select the winner of each pair of tickets from among the Early Bird Registrations. These drawings will be held December 1, January 1, February 1 (a double drawing, for two pairs of tickets), and February 16. The earlier you register for the conference, the more chances you have to win!

International attendees: All attendees traveling internationally to our conference may register at the pre-registration rate, even when registering on-site. Additionally, each affiliate receives two scholarships for international attendee registration. You should contact your affiliate program chair for information about how they will distribute those scholarships

It is the policy of the SSSA to post its preliminary programs on the Association website, and to archive them on the Association website for future reference. By registering for this conference, you acknowledge that you have read this statement;  are fully aware of this policy; agree to abide by and be bound by it; and by so doing,  waive your right to not have your program information (name and institutional affiliation) kept online.

To preregister by mail, fill out and mail the form included with the 2008 Registration Packet (.pdf).

To preregister online, go here, which is active NOW!

Joining the SSSA

Joining the SSSA is easy.  Our membership services are maintained by Blackwell Publishers, which  publishes our official journal, Social Science Quarterly.  Membership in the Association, which is on a calendar-year basis, entitles the individual to receive a year's subscription to SSQ as well as member-rate registration fees for the annual meeting. Annual meeting pre-registration fees for members are less for non-members, and even student membership and preregistration are lower. An individual may join up to three affiliates, with the first membership included in the basic membership; additional affiliates may be joined for only $5 each. A portion of your membership dues goes to each designated affiliate. Individuals may also choose to join the Association at the annual meeting.
